Botox® is the new buzz word of the wrinkle world, with many celebrities and high-profile people opting for the treatment to combat the effects of the aging process on their skin. How Botox® began

Interestingly, the surgeon responsible for this phenomenon did not intend to create Botox for wrinkles. How Botox® works on treating wrinkles

Botox is a type of toxin which temporarily inhibits messages from the nerves to the muscles, thereby reducing the appearance of 'worry lines' and frowning. The only way this treatment can be administered in via an injection into the muscle. Creams and lotions claiming to contain Botox may be telling the truth, but you will see absolutely no improvement because of it.

When we frown or move our face, the muscles develop and often cause what are known as 'static wrinkles'; permanently visible lines that do not diminish when we rest. These are the wrinkles and muscles that are best treated with Botox.

The procedure

After a local anesthetic is applied to the necessary zone in the form of a cream, small amounts of the toxin are injected into the muscles. The treatment should take no more than 20 minutes and, unless complications occur, no aftercare should be required.

It is recommended that the patients moves his or her face as much as possible in the half hour or so following the injections in order to introduce the Botox in to the wrinkle zones.
